When it comes to natural wonders, there are few that can compete with Butterfly Valley. It’s truly a delight to walk around the valley, with nothing but beautiful surroundings that include the crystal -blue waters. The valley gets its name from the vast array of butterflies that populate the surrounding cliffs.

Butterfly Valley is a very popular camping spot and comes with shower and toilet facilities, which makes it perfect for first-time campers who don’t want to forgo the luxuries of home. In addition to this, there are also bungalows available so if you want to get in touch with nature on your trip to Turkey, it doesn’t get much better than Butterfly Valley.

Mosque of Mahmut Bey

You don’t have to be religious to appreciate the beauty of Mahmut Bey Mosque. Located in Kasaba, it’s a spectacular piece of architecture and warrants a close inspection of its more intricate details. For example, the painted motifs on the wooden columns still remain clear and vibrant. A spectacular fact when you consider that the mosque was constructed in the 14th century.

A half-hour drive from Kastamonu, Mahmut Bey mosque is a must-see when visiting Turkey.

Akbuk Bay

Akbuk Bay is one of the most pristine areas in all of Turkey. This is due in no small part to the fact that it is an environmentally protected area with any building being forbidden. Traditionally a small fishing village, it attracts visitors from all around Turkey thanks to its serene beauty and the fact that it has the lowest level of humidity and highest oxygen count of anywhere in the entire country.

Akbuk Bay has some of the most beautiful white sand to be found anywhere and boasts a vivid blue sea to match. It’s a very popular camping area, and it’s not hard to see why with so much natural beauty on display. You will also find  some fantastic places to eat and drink.

Pamukkale

Pamukkale, which means ‘cotton castle’ in Turkish, is one of the most surreal landscapes to be found in Turkey. It is most famous for its white terraces, which are made of travertine – a sedimentary rock with an extremely high mineral content. History enthusiasts will find the area particularly fascinating, as the ruins of the ancient Greek city of Hierapolis can still be seen there.

The thermal pools at Pamukkale are another big attraction, although they can get somewhat crowded at peak times. Overall Pamukkale is a must-visit location for any trip to Turkey.
