Bangkok is one of the most interesting and diverse cities I have ever traveled to. And those who know it well would agree. I wrote this article to help inspire you to visit and get a taste of the wonderful things possible there. I hope you enjoy it!
The Grand Palace in Bangkok

A trip to the Grand Palace should be at the top of your list and not be missed. The city’s most famous landmark was constructed in 1782 and has been the home of the revered Thai kings, the administrative seat, and the Royal Court ever since. The architecture is intricately detailed, and this wonderful place has a special meaning for the Thai people with so much of its history originating from here. This really is a must-see spot in Bangkok.
The Floating Markets
The floating markets are perhaps more of a tourist thing today, but they were always an important part of Bangkok’s history and culture. The boats are stacked with various tropical fruits and vegetables, juices, and “floating restaurants” offering local fare. There is nothing quite like eating a meal on the water at one of these restaurants, buying some fruit, and haggling with the locals. The atmosphere is amazing, and the best floating markets are Taling Chan, Damnoen Saduak, and Bang Ku Wiang.
Wat Arun
The most stunning of all temples in Bangkok is known as the Temple of Dawn. It sits majestically on the banks of the Chao Phraya River. One of the most curious things about it is the unconventional design that you really cannot find anywhere else in Bangkok in terms of temples. The colorful spires reach high into the sky, and the riverside location just adds the icing on the cake. I would highly recommend visiting the temple by taking the very cheap (3 baht) shuttle boat from one side of the river to the other and seeing the sunrise or sunset.
Khao San Road
Many people often mention that Bangkok is a place where Western and Eastern cultures come together, and Khao San Road is a prime example of this. Many travelers converge here to enjoy the clubs, cocktail bars, food, and market stalls of almost every imaginable variety. Whatever it is that you are here to see, Khao San Road is a place that offers a mixture of relaxed open-mindedness with the intensity of the Bangkok nightlife. This is a truly interesting place in the heart of the city and is a great spot to book one of the many beautiful IHG hotels in Bangkok.
Wat Pho
This is the temple of the ‘Reclining Buddha,’ which is famous for the enormous 46-metre long statue of a Buddha that rests in a reclined position. Due to its huge size and gold leaf exterior, the Buddha is an incredible sight to be seen. One of the best things is that it is only a short walk from the Grand Palace, so if you are looking to get a lot done in a short period of time, I recommend combining these two great activities.
But Thailand is a very visited country also for its dream beaches. Maybe after a few days exploring every corner of Bangkok you’ll want to relax in one of the best KOH SAMUI resorts before returning to the hectic pace of routine life.
