Shanghai is famous for a number of reasons, but one of the main reasons is because dining in Shanghai is out of this world! It’s quite easy to just wander around the fabulous streets of this magical city and stumble upon some of the best food you’ve ever tasted. I have experienced it for myself and the first piece of advice I have to give you is – eat absolutely everything that you see! You’ll regret it when you get home if you don’t, so leave your diet at the door or at the airport, and indulge in a vibrant famed for some of the best cuisine that China has to offer.
From fine dining to street food there is something here for all taste buds and budgets. The city has what I would call some of the most distinctive cuisine that I have tasted. I got speaking to waiter when I was eating at YUE 1525, in the Shanghai Hotel, and he explained to me that the food is influenced because of the city’s location south of the Yangtze River. The position of the city means that there is an abundance of freshwater fish and shellfish, which I absolutely love!
I was really surprised on my first visit to Shanghai that the people there have a really ‘sweet tooth’, this was one more reason for me to fall madly in love with the cuisine there. I love sugar, so when I learned that Shanghai is the city in China that uses the most sugar in the food I was done.
The best Shanghai restaurant I visited was in the New World Shanghai Hotel. Yue1525, which I mentioned earlier, was simply perfect and I couldn’t have asked for more because it was some of the best Chinese food I’d ever tasted. To be honest I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the places in that hotel, all of the food is word class and then there’s my favourite when you’re finished– a relaxing bar with a fine malt whiskey.
If you think you’re a food lover then I don’t think you will forgive yourself if you don’t visit Shanghai at least once when you’re choosing a holiday destination. I have only been talking about the food here because it simply blew me away, but the city has so much more to do I assure you that you will never ever get bored.
